Public Lab Series
2026/27

On the heels of a smashing inaugural season,
The Vault @ Coal Mine Theatre returns for its second season with a remarkable line up of brand new Canadian plays by established and emerging Canadian Playwrights.

We are beyond excited about our second season of Public Labs at The Vault,” shares The Vault’s Artistic Producer Diana Bentley and General Manager Adriano Sobretodo Jr.Entering our second year and growing partnership with Coal Mine Theatre, we’re starting to become a vibrant and inspiring playwright's lab. Last year we learned how involved our audiences want to be in the creation process of new work at The Vault, and this year we’re working with an astonishing group of playwrights and directors in the 2026/27 Public Lab Series.

The Vault @ Coal Mine Theatre is a space where writers, creators and playwrights are afforded the opportunity to explore, experiment and invest in their ideas in the critical stages of development. Located within Coal Mine Theatre, The Vault offers playwrights and artists community, and a place to train, craft and grow. Welcome to The Vault Creation Lab.

The essential purpose of
The Vault Creation Lab

is to support and prioritize the writer's journey and creative process. Through our Public Lab Series, Development Streams and In-House Initiatives, The Vault gives Canadian playwrights access to space, development, community and training in order to develop and uncover the complete potential of their craft.

A ground-breaking component of the The Vault is our Public Labs (our first series launched in the Fall of 2025). Public Labs invite audiences in on a critical stage of development: when a play is ready for audience feedback and exchange.
The purpose of the Public Labs is to give the playwright a chance to test, develop and focus their work with the presence and input of a live audience.

Keep it in the Vault…
